Nancy Jackson was very likely the daughter of William Jackson and his wife Mahitable Woods based on the following research.
Nancy and her husband Benjamin Shelly were married in 1783 in Wilkes County, Noth Carolina. This is the first point that she may possibly be the daughter of William Jackson of Wilkes, NC (and eventually Carter Co., TN). At that early time there were extremely few Jacksons in Wilkes Co. So William was the first parent thought of. William's 1810 Will mentions 4 sons and "all my other children". So finding the other children is an ongoing challenge.
The bondsman for Nancy and Benjamin's marriage was Abijah Fairchild. William's daughter Rebecca married Abiud Fairchild, brother of Abijah Faircloth. The Fairchild famiy and the Jackson famiy traveled from New Jersey together to the Jersey Settlement in central NC and then during Revolutionary time "fled to the mountains" located in Wilkes County. Benjamin and Nancy named a daughter, Mahitable Shelly, probably after Nancy's mother.
After their Wilkes County marriage Nancy and Benjamin lived in Iredell County adjacent to Wilkes Co. See 1790 map here: https://www.carolana.com/NC/Early_Statehood/nc_statehood_1800_counties_1790.html
A desc of Nancy Jackson and Benjamin Shellley has a small DNA connection to the Hempstead Jackson line. So all these connections appear justify the conjecture that Nancy is the daughter of William Jackson and Mahitable Woods.
