  His son Frank's obit names the father as Thomas J. Jackson. So which is first name and middle, I do not know for sure. I do note that most of these Morgan County Jacksons went by their middle name. Later, a descendant wrote: First, Mollie's father. I don't know how it got to be James Thomas, (1880 census maybe) but it's everywhere that way. However it is actually Thomas James. (person 4659 10221). It's Thomas or Thomas J. on his 1895 marriage record, 1900-1930 census', & his tombstone. I mentioned the "James Thomas" to a few of his grandchildren. They were like "uh, no, um his name was Tom, well, Thomas." A few didn't even know what the J stood for, some thought it was Joseph.
