Final Rites for Mrs. B K Foster
A large number of devoted relatives and friends assembled at the chapel of Barry Funeral Home Monday afternoon to pay final tribute to Mrs. Minnie Gathings Foster, wife of Benjamin Knowles (B.K.) Foster, who died at 8:30 Sunday night following a long illness. The rites were conducted by the Rev. G C Gregory, pastor of First Methodist Church, of which Mrs. Foster was a member, assisted by the Rev. T E Gregory, former pastor. Burial was in the I O O F Cemetery. Pallbearers were R V Nabors, J L Colbert, C E Thompson, A C Taylor, Frank Foster and Tom Woodfin.
Mrs. Foster, who was 87, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J M Gathings, pioneer citizens of Monroe County. In 1889, she was married to Mr. Foster and they lived in Prairie until 1900 when they moved to Okolona. She lived here the remainder of her life.
A devoted wife, loving mother and cordial friend, she devoted the major portion of her time to her home and loved ones. She was active in church work and the W F Tucker Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy until she became ill several years ago.
During the years of her long illness, Mrs. Foster remained cheerful, and always delighted in the visits of her friends and relatives.
In addition to her 90 year old husband, who is an invalid, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. D W Hoke, of Memphis, and Miss Mary Lee Foster, chief operator for the Southern Bell Telephone Company; two grandsons, David Hoke and Asa Hoke, of Memphis; and a great grandson, Asa Howard Hoke, of Memphis. All of these were here for the services.
