- Obituary:
Melvin (Coxey) Gross, 55, of 1540 Grand Park Ave, died suddenly Friday, October 29, at St. Thomas Hospital.
He was born in New Straitsville, O., and had lived in Akron 45 years. He was employed 34 years at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a tire builder. He was veteran of World War II and a member of Mogadore Post 8487 of the VFW. Also, the Army and Navy Garrison, No. 102.
He is survived by wife, Leona; son James Melvin, of Akron; daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Joyce) Feckler, of Akron, Mrs. Kenneth (Jeannette) Sullivan, Lathrop, Calif., nine grandchildren; step mother, Mary Gross of Barberton; brothers, George E. and Timothy, all of Barberton, O., Jess Joseph, Jr. of Akron; sisters, Mrs. Ina Tilley, of Akron, Mrs. Deborah Shaffer, Mrs. Dottie Clark, Mrs. Judy Johnson, Mrs. Donna Price, all of Barberton.
Funeral services 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Hopkins Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd, Akron, Rev. Don Davies officiating. Burial Greenlawn Memorial Park, where Mogadore Post 8487 VFW will conduct military services. Friends May call at the funeral home 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday (Hopkins).
