      Kenneth Gene Jackson (April 26, 1929 - January 28, 1998) was an American football offensive lineman in the National Football League. A native of Austin, Texas, Jackson played for six seasons for the Dallas Texans and the Baltimore Colts.

      Kenneth G. Jackson HOUSTON - Kenneth G. Jackson, 68, of Waco, Texas, passed away on January 28, 1998, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. Ken was born on April 26,1929, in Thorndale, Texas, to Obie and Pearl Jackson. Being raised in Austin, he graduated from Austin High School in 1947. In the fall of that year, he entered the University of Texas as a freshman playing on the varsity football team. They made it to the 1949 Orange Bowl despite being considered a third-rate team, upsetting the University of Georgia. In 1950, the team became the Southwest Conference Champions and went to the Cotton Bowl. After the Cotton Bowl, he went to Alabama and played in the Senior Bowl to finish his college football career.

      During the Korean Conflict, Ken joined the United States Navy in 1951, being stationed in San Diego, California. Playing football for the Navy, Ken made the All Service Team. After his discharge, he was drafted into the National Football League by the New York Yankees which became the Dallas Texans. He participated in their first training camp in Kerrville at the Shriner Institute. In 1953, the Dallas Texans became the Baltimore Colts. Ken was with the Colts from 1953 to 1959, and then played for the Montreal Alouttes in the Canadian Football League. After one season, he retired. In 1959, he moved back to Austin and became owner and partner in Ken Jackson's Drive In for several years. In the late 1960s, Ken joined Don Behringer of Waco, and they opened pawn shops all over Texas. He also was a member of the Austin Chapter of SFOA until he moved to Waco. Ken retired in 1981.

      Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Dorthea Jackson of Waco, Texas; his son, Kenneth Kyle Jackson and wife Sandra of Zanesville, Ohio; and daughter, Kimberly Jean Wilson and husband Larry of League City, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Jackson of Brenham, Texas, Kevin Kinzie and wife Heather of Charleston, South Carolina, Stephanie Kinzie of League City, Kenny Jackson, Travis Jackson, and Nicholas Jackson, all of Zanesville, Ohio; great-grandchild Hunter Kinzie; his brother, Jiles Jackson and wife Evalyon; sister, Dorothy Taft and husband George, all of Austin, and many adoring nieces and nephews.

      The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m Friday, January 30,1998, at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, where funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31,1998. Interment followed at the Cook-Walden-Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Capital Area Division, P.O. Box 16169, Austin, Texas 78761-6169.
