  Note from his grandson Chris: "He left home around 1916 or so, ended up in California where he joined the army but there is an interesting note to this; the 1920 census shows a Harry Jackson from Kouts, Indiana born 1903 on the USS Arkansas at the time too at Bremerton, Washington, United States, Military and Naval Forces." Harry retired from the U.S. Army at Fort Sheriden, Illinois 28 Aug 1945, age 42.
