Delphos Republican
June 26, 1931
Eva Belle LaPlant was born on March 6, 1877 at the farm home of her parents six miles northeast of Delphos, Kansas and passed out of this life at her home in Delphos on June 19, 1931. She grew to womanhood in her parental home, and Delphos has bbeen her home town nearly all of her life. As a child, she was never strong and had many sick days, but as she grew older, she seemed to get stronger, and was quite well. But for the last several years she had been sick much of the time, and was bedfast the last ten months of her life.
On October 3, 1900, she was joined in marriage to Ross Devore at Concordia, Kansas. To this union were born three sons, harold, Richard and Gail, all of whom survive their mother.
On March 17, 1907 Mrs. Devore united with the Presbyterian Church in Delphos, and continued a member of that church until the end. For the last few years she had not been able to attend the worship services, but she was a member of the Home Department of the Sunday School and kept up her religious contact with the church and her Saviour. She was always glad to have her pastor call and read the Bible, and pray with her.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and three sons; four brothers, Will LaPlant of Cooperstown, North Dakota, Philip LaPlant of Minneapolis, Kansas, George LaPlant of Concordia, Kansas, and Amos LaPlant of Miltonvale; Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bailey of Minneapolis, Kansas; besides more distant relatives and a large number of friends.
Mrs. Devore was not a woman who was prominent in public life, but her home was her delight. She levied for her family and her neighbors, and they will miss her most. Her place in the home will be empty, but the memory of her will always be alive in our minds.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon, in charge of her pastor, Rev. E.L. Brown, and interment was made in the Delphos Cemetery.
A mixed quartet, composed of Mrs. Wendell Wilkins, Mrs. W.W. Wagner, Sherman Belveal and D.T. Davies, sang In the Sweet By and By, Nearer, Still Nearer, and Rock of Ages, assisted at the piano by Mrs. Willard Casey. The pallbearers were L.D. Clingenpeel, C.A. Sullivan, Avery Johnsten, Glen Belveal, Fred Skinner and Wendell Wilkins.
