    • The 1850 Barbour County Census lists him as Lance J. Reed, but Reed researcher, Charlene Cathell says his name was Samuel Jackson Reed and that "he was born mentally challenged and continued to live with his mother until his death at age 29. . . Samuel died at the age of 29. Cause of death was listed as 'fits'."
